About Us

Overview

The Repercussion Group brings together researchers, clinicians, people personally affected by concussion, and their families from across the globe. Our common goal is to promote open and informed discussion, which weighs the evidence and considers alternative perspectives. We believe that research needs to be driven by patients, players, and their families to help us understand what is actually going on. We do not propose to prove a particular view – in fact, we often disagree with each other which is our strength. Our aim is to ensure we ask the right questions to help us understand more about concussion in sport so we can educate and improve the well-being of future generations.

In the Repercussions Group:

- the role of patients and caregivers is to provide the areas of most importance that affect their lives as a result of having sustained a brain injury.

- the role of clinicians is to ensure that we consider the medical implications of the research and are guided by the medical principle of “first do no harm.”

- the role of scientists is to advise on interpreting research evidence, highlight areas where there are knowledge gaps, and listen to clinicians and advocates about what research is needed.

- the role of advocates is to ensure the discussion is patient and family-centered to ensure we are discussing the areas of most importance to those who are at risk.

Summary

We are all equal partners who take away key points from our discussions to advance the work that we do in our individual roles.

We aim to operate and live in the grey areas to ensure we remain open to learning from what the evidence tells us.

A comprehensive eye exam includes testing for convergence, eye movement, and accommodative function; a new report recommends testing for fifteen different visual issues common after a concussion. These tests are not done by your family optometrist or a neurologist but by neuro-optometrists specializing in vision development or trained in neuro-optometric rehabilitation. The vision exam will involve an in-depth assessment of several factors, including:
